Day 145 - Vegan Station at my Internship

Today I got to work with Elia at the vegan station. It was really fun! Especially since I LOVE vegan food and vegetarian food. We made Sweet Potato Tacos with Vegan Chicken and Tofu Cheese. I saved some for after I got off work and oh my it was definitely good!

Chef Jim had Alverto teach me how to use the wok at the Asian station. Now that was a toughie! The thing weights so much and the oil is boiling and extremely hot and could cause a fire if I spill it our put the flames too high. So that was a bit intimidating but neat to learn.

Jen, the Marketing and Communications Chair for Sodexo, had decided she wants to create a page just for me on the Chapman Sodexo website, and then videos for Facebook and Youtube. She’s taken 3 different videos of me so far and wants me to start blogging. Little did I know getting filmed for videos was going to be part of the job!

Day 144 - My logotype! Well staying up all of Sunday night ended up being worth it. The German midterm went well and so did my critique for this logotype. Amazingly my presentation for business practices that night wasn’t half bad either! Pretty good for doing it during the workout class I ditched earlier in the afternoon. Who knew I could lead a humorous presentation after being up for 2 days? Must be the sleep deprivation…

Well staying up all of Sunday night ended up being worth it. The German midterm went well and so did my critique for this logotype. Day 143 - Worked a trade show at the LA Convention Center Sunday was a very full day. Started off at 7 am getting ready to go up to LA for a trade show with my boss. We had a table there with information about Wall Words, quotes for sale, practice words to try, a drawing for a gift card, and catalogs to take home. It was the first trade show I’m been to/worked at so it was a neat experience. Now I know what to do when/if I need to do one in the future! So I got home about 7 at night… and had a German midterm, paper to write and online homework to do. But first I decided to do research for Advanced Graphic Design and then my homework for Business Practices, which included a resume, cover letter, and presentation/power point to do on random topics. And all the while I had our first big typography project due the next day mounted with insituation photos on another board and a process folder. Well let’s just say… I ended up at Kinko’s from 3-4 am. Such strange people up/working at that hour by the way! Ended my night/morning at Breanna’s apartment for another couple hours after that in attempts to study for German… and we didn’t get very far. And on to Monday…

Day 142 - First Concert!!!

So I went to my first concert, so exciting. Candace, my little sis, decided when she found out I had never been to a concert before that she would be the first to take me. Well that wish came true! She made a big & little date out of it too! Her best friend Emily goes to Cal State Northridge and is a Tri Delta. So Emily brought her big sis and Candace brought me and it was a date! Candace made such cute shirts too :)

Overall the concert was great! Brings back memories of middle school and high school… Blink-182 with an opening by My Chemical Romance! Good stuff.

And… I got an airbrush tattoo on my leg. I think you can see it in the 2nd picture. My mom saw it when I got home and freaked out a bit… oh mom.

Day 141 - Blue Lantern Inn with Mom! My mom bought me a night with her at the Blue Lantern Inn in Dana Point for my birthday! It’s soooo pretty here. I wish I hadn’t had to work on my papers for my Fulbright application the whole time, that sorta ruined things. But we still managed to have some fun. We went to a delicious dinner at Luciano’s!

Day 140 - Birthday Dinner!!

Since I was really sick last Thursday we had to postpone my birthday dinner with my dad, Kim, Alex, Max, and Christina. Luckily this week worked out and I was able to meet Kim’s parents too!

Dinner was delish - PF Changs! Sooo good :) Danny was our food vacuum or something, he ate EVERYTHING in site! By the end of the night all 10 of us still couldn’t finish the giant trough of ice cream at Farrell’s… it was 30 scoops!! Now that’s craziness!

Day 139 - School, school, school Well even after getting sick last week from lack of sleep I’ve had 2 late nights in a row yet again. Last night I was in the Mac lab till 4 am working on a project due this morning. 2 hours of sleep later I was ready for another 14-hour day at school, ick. I need sleep!! Anyways.. here I am in the student union working on sketches/a concept for our new project with my group. At least the couches are super comfy!

Day 139 - School, school, school

Well even after getting sick last week from lack of sleep I’ve had 2 late nights in a row yet again. Last night I was in the Mac lab till 4 am working on a project due this morning. 2 hours of sleep later I was ready for another 14-hour day at school, ick. I need sleep!!

Anyways.. here I am in the student union working on sketches/a concept for our new project with my group. At least the couches are super comfy!

Day 138 - Internship!! I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, I’m interning for Sodexo (Chapman’s food service company) this semester for credit towards my nutrition and food science minor. Last semester I analyzed recipes and designed nutritional signage to put at each station of the cafeteria with at-a-glance nutritional info for independent study credit.. This semester I’m working both in the office reviewing recipes and creating a list of healthy options for the retail line in the Rotunda (Simply to Go line). However, I also get to work hands-on in the kitchen with the chefs at the different stations, which is my favorite part! I started in the kitchen last week, so today was my third day working at the stations. I worked at the Italian station last week and today was my first day at the Euro station. Other than burning my face a bit when taking bread out of the huge oven it was a good day!

Day 137 - Camera’s broken :( So… camera is broken yet again. I think this camera corrupts memory chips. It did that in Florence this summer too! And this chip is new! Hopefully my brother, Jeremy, can see what’s wrong… maybe I’ll have to get a new one. So until now I have no camera. Taking a picture a day is going to be difficult! So here me & Breanna are with my broken camera using iPhoto on our Macs in class. Maybe that’s what I’ll have to do this week!
